Please
join Wind and Wire in welcoming AMBIENT
VISIONS
"back to the fold" of music review
websites!
- (from the editor at
Ambient Visions): "I am happy to announce that Ambient
Visions has returned to the web after a lengthy absence
and is once again offering up a nice mixture of reviews,
news and interviews. In the coming months we hope to be
able to expand our current format to include more
articles and features as well as a column dedicated to
reader feedback (if any)about issues that concern the
ambient community. The letters column will also be a
place to offer your opinion on how Ambient Visions is
doing so don't be shy. Ambient Visions as the name
implies covers the ambient music field but we will be
expanding the site to include more new age material over
the coming months as well. All in all Ambient Visions is
happy to be back and we are looking forward to renewing
old acquaintances and establishing many new ones."
Michael Foster, editor.
NEW AND UPCOMING RELEASE INFO
(note:
CD info comes from
mailing lists and press releases; descriptive comments below
are not from a Wind and Wire reviewer, unless
specifically annotated as such)
- Jesse Sola, a.k.a.
Numina, has this announcement: "Greetings friends and
fellow ambientities, This message is to announce that the
new domain/website for Numina is now up and running at
http://www.numinamusic.com.
The new site has an updated appearance and I have added
substantial news information including news about
upcoming release, some freebie tunes under the "Music"
link section at the top of the page as well as other
subtle changes.
- If you are a fan of new
age music, and you haven't heard of Australian artist
Tony O'Connor, time to get clued in. Here's some news
from "down under" from Tony himself. "I wanted to let you
know that Private Collection, my new compilation album,
has now been officially released - and you can read all
about in the News page on my website, or in the Catalogue
pages under Latest Releases. Thanks so much for your
support and interest in the website. We are currently
planning some major updates to the site - including a new
Health and Well Being section, which will feature
articles and info from various prominent folk involved in
Natural Therapies. There is to be a new Featured Album
section too, where each month or so I will feature in an
depth discussion and info on how a particular CD was
written and produced. I have received many requests for
this... so it's coming real soon! And we will be starting
a new competition on the site shortly, with one of my
Spirit Wind flutes on offer as a prize. Stay tuned for
more, this will be fun...I'll see you at the
website!
(per Bill Binkelman, Tony O'Connor is one of the most
under-rated and unrecognized new age music artists
recording today).
- (from the artist's press
announcement) Intricate rhythm structures, ehtereal
harmonies, tribal grooves and deep space drones are just
part of Abstract Circuitry, the second release of
electronic ambient space music artist Galactic Anthems.
Created by composer Glenn Adams, the follow-up disc to
the first Galactic Anthems CD continues the eclectic
blend of combining usual sounds, textures and moods into
a cohesive listening experience. Available now at:
CD
Baby, (CD Baby
has two minute excerpts of each track) and
Backroads
Music
- (from the artist's press
announcement) IXOHOXI is pleased to announce the release
of his new CD Micronicom. Under construction for
the past year, it is 75 minutes of cyber-ambient
psychedelia. Resonanting pulses, sweeping washes,
syncopated rhythms, dopplered harmonic drones and other
forms of electronic alchemy fill the 10 tracks.
Spacemusic for the neuromancer, inspired by the subatomic
world where the quantum deities play to a different set
of rules. Reviews will be posted shortly. You can listen
to several full-length sample tracks and order at the
IXOHOXI
music store.
- Ron Berry, whose
recording Heavens and Highlands was recently
reviewed in Wind and Wire, offers this update: "I have a
little news.... I'm trying to the get my catalogue of
eight albums on CD complete. Various things have cropped
up to delay the process for months and months but The
Reaper and A Voice in the Wilderness are, at
last, away being duplicated now. The last one Where
Dark Forces Meet will follow shortly. This was
actually the first album I ever did. I have no studio at
present due to moving house and having to convert a small
run down granny flat attached to the side of the house.
But progress is being made and I should be back in
business soon. I have two new albums on the go, which I
will resume work on as soon as possible."
- Both Bill Binkelman and
Michael Woodhead reviewed Jeff Oster's EP, At
Last, this issue. Here's a press announcement from
the artist: "New from Jeff Oster, the San Francisco based
trumpet flugelhorn artist produced by Will Ackerman.
Retso Records is proud to announce the release of Jeff
Oster's new CD - At Last. Produced by Will
Ackerman, guitarist and founder of Windham Hill Records,
and recorded at Will's Imaginary Road Studios in Windham
County, Vermont, Jeff was joined by Happy Rhodes, T. Bone
Wolk, Philip Aaberg and other fine artists on these
sessions. The music can be heard at http://www.jeffoster.com,
as well as at http://www.cdbaby.com/oster.
Perhaps best described as Miles Davis meets Dead Can
Dance, Jeff's music combines new age, electronica and
acoustic horns in new and exciting ways. We hope you
enjoy listening to this music as much as we did creating
it. And as you listen, imagine... Feel free to contact
Jeff via email at jeff@jeffoster.com.
